The head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, continues to advance in the process of filling vacancies in her administration. Following the recent attack suffered by the substitute deputy for the PRI, Diana Sánchez Barrios, she has appointed one of her top collaborators as the authority of the Historic Center: Carlos Cervantes Godoy.
Through an official statement, Brugada confirmed the appointment of Cervantes Godoy, former deputy for Iztapalapa, who will coordinate actions with security authorities to ensure safety and promote social, cultural, and economic development in the area. This position was previously held by Manuel Oropeza, former coordinator of Brugada's Security cabinet.
Cervantes Godoy, who previously coordinated Brugada's campaign in the Álvaro Obregón mayoralty and participated in Javier López Casarín's victory, assumes this responsibility following the recent incident that raised alarms in the Cuauhtémoc mayoralty due to the increase in crime.
The new coordinator, with experience as a former local deputy and general director of Government and Citizen Protection in Iztapalapa, is noted for his closeness to the head of Government and his extensive knowledge of the political environment of the capital.
Clara Brugada has entrusted Cervantes Godoy with the mission to strengthen security in coordination with the relevant institutions, establish dialogue with the economic sector, regulate trade, preserve monuments, and work with the population for peace.
The appointment comes after the attack against Diana Sánchez Barrios in the Historic Center, who is still recovering from the injuries caused by an armed attack at the corner of Motolinía and 5 de mayo, an event that has raised concern in the community.
